I want to share with you the story behind the cover of Assassin’s Call which comes out on April 27. This is a new assassin series featuring Xavier Saint.
We started to work with my cover designer on a unique concept for the cover, as seen in version 1. However, we realized this isn’t exactly common for book covers in the assassin genre. Plus, it was difficult to find other pictures of the same model.
Hence, version 2. However, the silhouette looks like it is floating. The title also isn’t as clear and strong as it should be. So we moved to version 3 with a different background, which is a city where a crucial part of the story takes place.
In version 4, we made the silhouette darker and changed the font of the title, again to make it look more fitting to the genre. Version 5 added a bit of light, to indicate the hope that even assassins can have. However, it didn’t look right.
Version 6 looked much better, with the sunny glow. We changed the font color in version 7, and now the silhouette looks more involved with the title and the environment. 7th time’s the charm!
But what do you think?
Does this make you want to check out Saint’s new series?
