Secrets Revealed
1. The threat of being taken
The threat of being kidnapped looms over every Israeli operative or soldier, especially in or close to their border areas. Historically, the taking of Israeli personnel, or even civilians, has been used successfully for lopsided prisoner exchanges. For example, in 2004, Israel released over 400 Palestinian and 30 Lebanese prisoners, including some members of the Hezbollah leadership, in exchange for one civilian captive. In 2011, over 1,000 Palestinian security prisoners were freed in exchange for one staff sergeant.

So, of course, Jack is fighting not only against time but also against the captors, determined to keep their prisoner at any cost. But who are these captors? What do they want? The answers, of course, when you enjoy Mossad Extraction (Jack Storm #2).
2. Iran attempting to lure and kidnap Israelis
A few weeks ago, Mossad warned Israelis conducting business outside the country to be careful about being approached through social media. Iran intelligence operatives have set up fake Instagram profiles, usually of women in the tourism business, to contact Israelis. They attempt to draw Israelis to meetings abroad with business propositions or offers of romantic encounters. The goal is to kidnap them or otherwise harm them.

Israel has already warned their citizens not to travel to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, which have both recently normalized ties with Israel. However, more than 50,000 Israelis have brushed aside Covid-19 concerns, terrorism warnings, and decades of tension to make the 3-hour flight across the Arabian Peninsula to Dubai. That is a lot of tourists and a great temptation for Israel’s sworn enemies.
This normalization of ties is also a sub-plot in Mossad Extraction (Jack Storm #2). Who might not be happy with such “good” developments for trade and diplomacy? What are they willing to do to stop this process? The answers, in Book 2 of the Jack Storm spy thriller series.
What do you think of these secrets? Would you visit any Arab countries if you were an Israeli?
3. Is SVR really that active?
If you have read the book’s description, you know that Jack is forced to work with SVR, which is the Russian foreign intelligence agency. His operation takes him to the US, France, Luxembourg, and Turkey, among other countries.
But is the SVR really active in these countries? Here’s what the facts say:

The SVR celebrated its 100 birthday last year. Russian President Putin is a graduate of the SVR and served as an agent in East Germany in the 80s. A few weeks ago, the SVR was involved in the supply-chain attack that compromised the Texas-based firm SolarWinds Corp. The objective was to break into nine US government agencies and at least 100 private-sector companies. Last year, the US and UK accused the SVR of targeting organizations involved in developing a COVID-19 vaccine.
Outside the internet, the SVR is very active in the United States (where Russian spies were discovered as late as 2015), the Czech Republic (2021), and is suspected to operate in the UK, Germany, France, and a number of European countries. Generally, the SVR is renowned for its discretion and finesse, eliminating “extremists” outside Russia, as permitted by a Russian law passed in 2006.
How will Jack handle working with SVR operatives? What will he have to do to make the arrangement effective? The answers, of course, when you enjoy Mossad Extraction (Jack Storm #2).
